REVELATIONAL, RELATIONAL & GENERATION –
There are Three Eternal Blessings from God, that we should desperately want. They are Revelational Blessings, Relational Blessings, and Generational Blessings. The most precious words we can ever hear are the Voice of God in His Word or the inner voice and leading of God in our Spirit. Job said, “I desire your Word more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). Secondly, the God Who is love primarily created us to have a relationship with Him. And lastly, those of us who have children, pray for them to hear and obey the Word of God and have a deep and life-long relationship with Jesus. “Jesus, we ask for your blessings. Give us Revelations from Your Heart, a Relationship with You that lasts forever, and children and grandchildren who fall in love with Your will for their lives.”
WORST STORY . . . BEST ENDING
We’ve all watched movies that, somewhere in the middle, were so troubling we almost turned them off. But much to our surprise, it had an ending that made all the struggle in the middle more than worth it. Our lives are the same way. They can have the worst beginning, a terrible middle, but a happy, blessed ending. It reminds us of Christ’s first miracle at the Marriage of Cana: He saved the best wine for last. We all, at times, want to give up. Life’s too hard, too confusing, and too painful. But the God of Happy Endings always shows up. And if we stay on the operating table, we’ll see the genius of His perfect script for each of our lives. Love never fails, Hope never hurries, and Joy always comes in some distant morning if we trust God more than what we see or feel.
LONG LIFE IS NOT A BOOBY PRIZE
If living a long life was a booby prize, then the Word of God would never say, “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:2-3) You would think, the way some people live, that they are trying to get off the planet as soon as possible. Doing everything we can in our spirit, soul, and body is the will of God for each of our lives. 1 Corinthians 6 challenges each of us, “…do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and spirit, which are God’s.”
FEARING GOD & GOODNESS
Perhaps one of the most head-scratching concepts found in the Bible is that Fearing God is a demonstration of His Goodness. The prophet Hosea prophesied just that, “They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days.” (Hosea 3:5). WOW! That’s mind-blowing! Yet, hidden in this verse is a life-affirming truth. You could say, “Fearing God is the goodest thing we could ever do.” Romans, in the New Testament, affirms this as well, “…do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4) The Bible’s clear: God’s Goodness leads us to fear God, repent and get free! Amazing! That sentence, in itself, should cause us to see fearing God as Good and NOT fearing God as bad and evil.
CONFESSIONS OF AN UNCONSCIOUS LEGALIST
Renowned Bible teacher J. Vernon McGee stated, “Legalism is doing more or less than God asks us to do.” Ouch! I confess I’ve done this; sadly, I still do sometimes. In my efforts to change people’s unhealthy behavior, I’ve canonized statements that were more my opinion and personal conviction than soundly based upon the Word of God. It may seem innocent and optional, but it can lead to deception and heresy. Perhaps I should remember some of the final words in the Bible, “…I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book…” (Revelation 22:18-19) YIKES! Not to make me paranoid, but I don’t want to become a walking plague.
OUT-OF-REACH “FAITH”
What would you rather have, Faith that causes your prayers to be instantly answered or Faith that creates character and fortitude by waiting for God’s perfect timing? Hmm? Is that a trick question? Absolutely! It’s the one the Devil asks us all the time. It’s precisely why I pray, “God, keep what I believe in, reaching for, and praying for always out of my reach. My learning to walk by Faith, trust by Faith, and pray in Faith guarantees I am doing the one thing that always pleases You the most.” If we want mountains to be moved, dead hopes to be resurrected, and our broken hearts to be healed, we must grow up! And there’s only one way for that to happen: Believe in the impossible, grow muscles by Faith, and learn to trust God irrespective of what we see or feel.
