WHAT ARE YOU BELIEVING FOR? –
One of the universal maxims that people in all cultures share in common is the conviction that “more is better than less.” Whether it’s more money, pleasure, fun, or food, everyone wants more. Yet, when it comes to what pleases God – faith – it’s always easier to believe for less than believe for more. It’s called unbelief, and it was so unlike the heart of God it amazed Jesus. It’s why James, the brother of Jesus, wrote, “…the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6). No one’s ever asked God for more unbelief. Instead, they asked Jesus to “…help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). May that be our prayer today. “Jesus, increase our faith because we know it pleases You most.” (Hebrews 11:6)
PRAYING WITHOUT CEASING
Lately, the Holy Spirit has been challenging me to pray more for victories in my spiritual battles and more for my loved ones: for those who know Jesus to remain safe and for those who don’t know Him to get saved. I’ve come to the conclusion that the Bible’s challenge in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, to “pray without ceasing,” wasn’t a hyperbole or even an overstatement but a supernatural projection of the possibilities of the Spirit-Led life. With that said, there are times of flowing in the Spirit that seem almost conversational, a beautiful exchange of a Father and a son. Even saying this makes me emotional. It’s what I have always wanted with my natural father but never had. Now, my Heavenly Dad is with me all day, every day.
PRIDE VS. CONFIDENCE
There are two attitudinal epidemics that are running rampant across our culture. One shouts, “I’m everything!” and the other whispers, “I’m nothing!” The irony is that these polar opposites were birthed by the same person: the Devil. If the enemy of our souls can’t sabotage you with Pride; he’ll eviscerate you with Insecurity or False Humility. Yet, unless we are confident in who God created us to be, we’ll never fulfill our God-given destiny. Pride scares me. So many of the Bible greats were seduced by Pride, starting with Satan himself. On the other hand, the Bible says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7). It’s not only possible to be humble and powerful; it is absolutely God’s plan for each of our lives.
YOU DON’T NEED SOMEONE TO TEACH YOU
One of the most enigmatic, meaningful, and comforting verses in the New Testament is 1 John 2:27. It says, “…you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know…” Like today, because false teachings were deceiving even sincere believers, God’s Word affirmed the ultimate reality that we can rely on the Holy Spirit to be our ultimate Teacher. In the most spiritually dangerous situations, He will help us discern the truth that God alone knows. If we do as Colossians 3:15 says, to “… let the peace of God rule in our hearts…” He will decide, determine, direct, and control what truth and lies are. You can count on it!
WEAVING INTO GOD’S HEART
Only God provides a supernatural way to gain strength to fly above our troubles and be energized to go forward. Isaiah 40:31 promises, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” The word “wait” here means binding together (like strands in a rope), being intertwined with God, and waiting on Him with enthusiastic expectation. Our waiting on Jesus is not passive; it is an active intertwining of our hearts, minds, and spirits with our Creator—just as strands of a rope are woven together for strength, so our hearts are intertwined with the One who loves us most. Wait on God, renew your strength, and fly.
GOD’S SECRET PLACE IS HIS SAFE PLACE
Every parent wants their children to be safe, and no One wants that more than God. It’s why Psalm 91 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.'” (Psalm 91:1-2) God’s presence is the ultimate place of safety, a “secret place” of intimate communion with Him where He hides and protects His people. It’s where “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10). A safe place where God keeps us in perfect peace if our minds are steadfast because we are trusting in Him. (Isaiah 26:3) God’s calling us to enter the Safest Place on Earth, His Secret Place.
