As a boy, he was a self confessed liar, thief, and a gambler, addicted to cursing, foolishness, and fantasy. In his teens, he would mock local preachers, even storming into a church service, trying to break it up. George Whitfield was barely 15 years old when he tended bar for his mother and stepfather. But his talent for acting and mimicking was well known throughout the neighborhood. At school, he was always the one who was called on to speak whenever the mayor came for his annual visit. He’d even skip school to practice parts in plays. The teenager who would one day become a world famous evangelist, would spend his afternoons mopping floors, serving beer and mocking preachers.
