DAY 6 –

THE GIFT OF REPULSION

Dead religion drove me to atheism. Consequently, religious hypocrisy repulses me. It’s hard for all of us to see the value of things that repel us, even if they are a part of our lives. But God allows them for a greater purpose. Galatians 4 states that Paul the Apostle had a repulsive eye disease, but it didn’t stop believers from loving him: the man who once persecuted and killed Christians. The love of God transcended it all. Mother Teresa tells the story of a dying man she cared for who was being eaten with worms. The smell was so bad no one could be around him. He looked at her as she cared for him and said, “Why do you do this?” Saying words that were filled with God’s heart, she replied, “Because I love you.“ God, give us that kind of love, even for those whose lives may in some way repulse us.
